Hands of Hope
Hands of Hope Food Pantry is a not-for-profit ministry of Evangel Assembly of God Church that serves families who are in need in Hanover Park and surrounding communities.
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter? When you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I." - ISAIAH 58:7-9
History Hands of Hope was founded on Nov. 1, 2000 when we opened the doors for the very first time to those in need. We started by distributing food to 6 families the first week. Since then we have seen a great increase in the needs of the community as well as in our efforts to make a difference in people's lives. We now serve over 200 families on a weekly basis. We distribute $1,000,000 worth of food a year. We have a strong partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
What We're Doing Now
Presently we are serving over 200 families on a weekly basis. We distribute $1,000,000 worth of food every year. We have a strong partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank.Hands of Hope Food Pantry serves those in need who come to us from Hanover Park and surrounding communities. No one is ever turned away. Every person who comes through is offered counseling, prayer and the opportunity to make Jesus Christ the Lord of their life. Opportunities for serving with Hands of Hope include:
- Administrative - Use your administrative gifts to help with statistics, data entry, phone follow-up, newsletter writing, submitting grant proposals and applications, and placing orders for food through Northern Illinois Food Bank.
- Distribution - The distribution team is on the front lines working with our clients. The team assists with set-up, greeting, distribution, traffic flow and clean-up. Additionally, counselors are needed to minister to and pray with clients.
- Donations - Hands of Hope receives donations from many sources to provide the best possible quality of food for our clients. Drivers are often needed to go to different distribution centers and stores to collect these items. Additionally, people are needed to deliver groceries to those who are homebound or without transportation of their own. Some members of the donation team also make calls to solicit donations from grocery stores and other food supply locations.
