Together . . . It's what we're all about.

At Evangel Church we have three steps to our purpose and our process. You are likely to hear it over and over again when you're with us and see it many times here online. It's easy to remember and not too difficult to do.

Come together to celebrate what God has done in our lives and to honor Him.

Build together as we dedicate ourselves to growing more like Christ while we are on the journey. We do this through studying God's Word together on Sundays, meeting in Life Groups and attending some of the many classes and discipleship opportunities at Evangel.

Go together as we reach out to our community and the world to tell about Jesus and help those who are hurting by meeting spiritual as well as practical needs.

Our Purpose

Our purpose among the community of Evangel is to provide an atmosphere of worship and service to God where people can grow healthy and strong in their relationship with Jesus Christ with the encouragement and power of the Holy Spirit.

Our Affiliation

Evangel Church is affiliated with a group of churches known as the Assemblies of God (AG). There are over 2.8 million people in the United States and over 52.5 million adherents worldwide who are affiliated with this growing church family called the Assemblies of God. There are 12,277 churches across the U.S. who are a part of the Assemblies. Some will say that the Assemblies of God is one of the fastest growing churches of its kind in the world, but that would be really difficult to measure.  A better statement is God continues to show great favor and blessing to the Assemblies of God as this movement of people are striving to fulfill the will and purpose of the Lord.

Our affiliation does not mean Evangel is controlled by a parent organization. The Assemblies of God believes that the best leadership for a community is found at the local level. We are owned and operated by the local membership here at Evangel Church. The emphasis and control of AG churches are at the grass roots local level.

Our History

In the late 1960's, several families had moved into this area that had been members of Bethel Assembly of God in Oak Park, Illinois. At the same time a Pioneer Pastor, by the name of Rev. Howard Nelson was again trying to start a new church in the area. He had successfully launched two other churches, one in Palatine and one in Mount Prospect. In God's good time these two entities were brought together and a small group began. On June 6, 1966, Winston Churchill School in Schaumburg became the first meeting place for the church, Evangel Assembly of God. Approximately seventeen people were present at the first service.
